(b)Ezekiel 37
The Valley of Dry Bones
1 The hand of the LORD was upon me, and he brought me out by the Spirit of the LORD and set me in the middle of a valley; it was full of bones. 2 He led me back and forth among them, and I saw a great many bones on the floor of the valley, bones that were very dry. 3 He asked me, "Son of man, can these bones live?" I said, "O Sovereign LORD, you alone know."
4 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to these bones and say to them, 'Dry bones, hear the word of the LORD! 5 This is what the Sovereign LORD says to these bones: I will make breath [a] enter you, and you will come to life. 6 I will attach tendons to you and make flesh come upon you and cover you with skin; I will put breath in you, and you will come to life. Then you will know that I am the LORD.' "
7 So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I was prophesying, there was a noise, a rattling sound, and the bones came together, bone to bone. 8 I looked, and tendons and flesh appeared on them and skin covered them, but there was no breath in them.
9 Then he said to me, "Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to it, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe into these slain, that they may live.' " 10 So I prophesied as he commanded me, and breath entered them; they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army.
11 Then he said to me: "Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. They say, 'Our bones are dried up and our hope is gone; we are cut off.' 12 Therefore prophesy and say to them: 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: O my people, I am going to open your graves and bring you up from them; I will bring you back to the land of Israel. 13 Then you, my people, will know that I am the LORD, when I open your graves and bring you up from them. 14 I will put my Spirit in you and you will live, and I will settle you in your own land. Then you will know that I the LORD have spoken, and I have done it, declares the LORD.' "

(c) Baptism- Enter into the death and Ressurection of Christ!

(d) Freedom from Sin

"Saved"- Set free, healed, made whole, etc. Are we saved from sin?

Testimony.

Romans 7- 21So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. 22For in my inner being I delight in God's law; 23but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. 24What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? 25Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!

2. Abraham and stars- Gen 15

(a) 5 He took him outside and said, "Look up at the heavens and count the stars—if indeed you can count them." Then he said to him, "So shall your offspring be."
6 Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.

(b) 12 As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him.

(c) Abram could not see the stars- neither could he see how Gods promises could possibly be fulfilled!

(d) Gods promises to us....

i) Victory over sin and sinners
ii) Ressurection and Heaven
iii) God works works all things to the good for those who love him.
iv) Cry to me and I will answer you.
v) If you ask for anything in my name, I will grant it to you.

3. Sadducees and Ressurection

a) Sadducees did not believe in the final ressurection

i) Paul used this against them in a trial
Acts 23:6 Then Paul, knowing that some of them were Sadducees and the others Pharisees, called out in the Sanhedrin, "My brothers, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. I stand on trial because of my hope in the resurrection of the dead."

ii) Paul used the resurrection of Christ as proof that we would one day rise- 1 Cor 15:12-19

12But if it is preached that Christ has been raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13If there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith. 15More than that, we are then found to be false witnesses about God, for we have testified about God that he raised Christ from the dead. But he did not raise him if in fact the dead are not raised. 16For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. 17And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. 18Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. 19If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are to be pitied more than all men.

b) Jehoavhs Witnesses do not believe in physical ressurection

i) Flesh and blood will not inherit the kingdom
ii) Jesus' body must have just evaporated.
iii) "Spiritual bodies" - 1 Cor 15

35But someone may ask, "How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?" 36How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else.

42So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.

4. Ressurrected Bodies
a) Speculative
b) Glorified Bodies- Christ was not recognized
c) Not limmited to space and time? Christ passed through walls, bi-located,
d) Could still eat

i) If JW's were right, then when Jesus ate fish, it woudl have fallen on the floor, and God would be like "Ok, Michael, what are you doing?"

5. Hope

a) 1 Cor 15: 55-56
55"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?"[h] 56The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

b.) Hope as a theological virtue, intrinsically linked to Faith and Love.
i) Do you doubt Gods ability or his goodness?

6. Challenge
a) Continue to die to self during Lent, looking with anticipation to Easter.
